Sure the temperatures are getting colder, but that doesn’t mean your cocktails have to be ice cold as well.
In partnership with Pittsburgh Cocktail Week, Verde is hosting a “Hot Cocktail Party” on Sunday, December 1st. Experts Will Groves of Butterjoint, Rob McCaughey of Dreadnought Wines, and a lineup of other cocktail enthusiasts will create and share recipes for some delicious hot cocktails. We’ll be outdoors on the patio, but we’ll keep warm with a fire pit, flaming punches, and, oh yeah, some traditional loggerheads.
And when we say loggerhead, we’re not talking about warming your drink with a sea turtle, but rather an iron rod that was traditionally kept in the fireplace at taverns in the winter. The hot iron would be thrust into a drink with some hissing and some popping to flash-heat the drink. We’ll have a feuerzangenbowle for a traditional German hot mulled wine (and so Will can play with fire), as well as traditional Hot Toddies, Hot Buttered Rum, Tom and Jerrys, and more.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and include one cocktail and chips & salsa. Grab brunch at Verde beforehand, and if your belly isn’t full afterwards, stick around, because we’ll be relaunching our Sunday evening dinner service that night. So bundle up, bring your mug, and meet us on the patio!
